Social Innovation in France

France has a very rich history of social entrepreneurship, with a high number of newcomers embracing new technologies for social good. Many French projects have also participated in the European Social Innovation Competition – some of them very successfully.

Wheeliz, which has developed an online portal for a disability car sharing scheme, was among the winners in 2015. And in 2016, Love your Waste, a project encouraging recycling and reducing food wastage in canteens, won the Impact Prize.

And, also thanks to the Competition, they have gone from strength to strength: “We started four years ago with an idea. Today, we have thirty times the impact compared to when we began and we offer work opportunities to fifteen people who were long-term unemployed before,” summarises Juliette Franquet of Love your Waste, while Charlotte de Vilmorin of Wheeliz reports that her business “reached the important milestone of raising one million Euros in investment last year” and has grown to eleven employees.
